PLATFORM

Enact a "clean election" law restricting campaign spending, and have elections that are decided by the voters, not by money.

Prohibit mountaintop removal and other destructive mining practices in West Virginia, in order to protect our mountains and forests and streams; to protect our water supplies, including headwaters and aquifers; and to protect the wildlife in our forests and the fish in our streams.

Petition Congress to provide, to displaced surface miners, federally funded guaranteed jobs for five years in a program to repair, to the maximum possible extent, the environmental damage that has been caused by coal mining in West Virginia.

Preserve the right of victims to sue for damages for wrongful acts, in accordance with the centuries-old principles of the common law.

Expand the scope of the state Freedom of Information Act in order to achieve maximum transparency in the operations of state government.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Rod Harless, a resident of South Charleston, was born at Hanover in Wyoming County, WV, in 1939. He graduated from Ripley High School, Ripley, WV in 1957; graduated from West Virginia State College (Institute) in 1961, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree; and graduated from West Virginia University (Morgantown) in 2007, with a Master's Degree in Legal Studies.

For the most of the three decades  ending in 2006, he administered housing and community development programs for the City of Dunbar, WV. In the 1960s he was employed as a budget analyst for the Department of the Navy in the Pentagon.

From 1956 to 1962, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve units in Ripley and South Charleston.
